The research interests of full-time departmental staff cover both the areas of history/politics and literature/cultural studies, and have a wide chronological span ranging from medieval to contemporary culture. The following list details all staff specialisms within the Department: Renaissance poetry and thought; DuBellay; exile literature; Rimbaud; French party politics, especially the Gaullist party; French government, at national and local levels; Medieval chronicles, comparative medieval literature, Breton folklore; French cultural studies; French literature, history and thought 1600-1715; French language; twentieth century French comparative literature; the Algerian novel in French; Noveau Roman Women's Writing; Francophine Literature; French Liberation and Post Liberation; Gender and Politics; War and Languages; Medieval French Language and Literature; Medieval Occitan; Twentieth-century literature and drama.

How much will it cost?
2007 fees - £3,240 FT; £1,782 PT; £1,620 working away (FT); £891 working away (PT). The University offers a limited number of studentships, as do the Research Councils.

Entry Requirements
A good first degree in French language and culture, or an equivalent qualification in a relevant field. This should be combined with a good understanding of written French.
