Course info
The programme is intended to provide a thorough education and training in the principles and practice of town and country planning. It is designed chiefly for those wishing to become Chartered Town Planners and is fully accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) for exemption from its professional examinations. It is also accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) under the partnership arrangements between the RICS and the University of Reading. Students successfully completing the course can gain RTPI and RICS membership subject to successful completion of the Institutional's Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) requirements. The programme is underpinned by a 'development planning' specialism which sees planning as a process of engagement with development processes at all levels, from the local to the European. This specialism is built around three other thematic 'pillars' that explore the ways in which development planning interacts with 'markets', 'environment' and 'place'. The programme allows students to develop in-depth knowledge of a selected area of development planning.
