The course covers the following areas and is very practically focused; health and safety, the basic introduction to the tools setting out tiles, techniques for cutting and drilling tiles, practical hands on project. During the first two hours of the course we will cover the basics of wall tiling, including; surface preparation, how to deal with holes and old tiles different types of tiles and where they can be used different adhesives, grouts and sealers, how and where they should be used tiling tools, including; tape measure, spirit level, square, tile cutters and trowels or floats designing your layout, calculating the materials needed. Once the basics have been covered you will begin your own 'project' in one of our custom built bathroom, kitchen or shower room environments. You will start by designing your tile layout, looking at the options available and calculating the amount of materials needed. The next stage is to set out the levels and lines that your tiles will follow, this a critical stage of any tiling project as mistakes at this stage are difficult to rectify later. You will then set out the tiles, using spacers and levels to obtain a professional finish, gain experience at; using a wet diamond tile cutter, a dry tile cutter and drilling tiles. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is provided for all tile cutting and drilling.Once the tile adhesive is dry, you will grout your tiles to obtain a professional finish. When the grouting is dry you will be able to gain experience in using a silicon based sealer to provide the final water proof seals to your work. The objective of the course is to ensure that you experience all aspects of wall tiling and understand both the theory and practical techniques, with the focus on developing your skills at tiling. We believe that it's better to lay a few tiles well.
